5 Best Home Remedies for Acid Reflux

Acid reflux (or Acid Indigestion) is caused due to the failure of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES, a tube connecting from the throat to the stomach) to contract after swallowing food, causing stomach acid to come back into the esophagus. 1. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV):

In certain times, acid reflux is caused due to lack of enough acid in the stomach rather than having too much acid. So, to treat acid reflux in these cases, we prefer to use cider vinegar. It breaks down the fats for proper digestion and also balances the pH levels in the stomach.

Steps to be followed…
  • Add 1 – 2 teaspoons of raw, organic and unfiltered apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of warm water.
  • Stir well and drink it 20 – 30 minutes before meals.
  • Continue doing the same regularly for few days and thereby follow it whenever you suffer from acid reflux attacks.

Note:
  • Also, add a little honey in ACV water before drinking to enhance its taste.
  • Or consume 1 tablespoon of organic ACV before each meal to get rid of reflux.

3. Slippery Elm:

Slippery elm contains demulcent property that coats the esophagus and thickens the mucous lining of the stomach as a protective layer. It effectively creates a strong barrier against the acids to get rid of acid reflux.

Steps to be followed…
  • Mix 1 – 2 tablespoons of slippery elm root bark powder in 1 glass of water (prefer warm water).
  • Stir well and steep it for 3 – 5 minutes.

  • For best results, start with a small amount of slippery elm powder and then increase its quantity slowly.
